Mastiha lemonade with Bocconcini Tanghulu

A refreshing Greek-inspired lemonade paired with a playful, sweet-savoury skewer!
This vibrant drink blends the herbal, piney notes of Mastiha liqueur with fresh lemon and honey for a bright, aromatic lemonade. Served with skewers of strawberries and bocconcini coated in a crisp sugar shell, this pairing offers a unique contrast of textures and flavours—perfect for summer menus, brunch service, or as a signature welcome drink.

 

Ingredients

  • For the Mastiha Lemonade:

    • 2 cups cold water
    • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
    • 2 tbsp honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
    • ½ tsp Mastiha liqueur
    • Ice cubes
    • Lemon slices (for garnish)
    • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
  • For the Bocconcini Tanghulu Skewers:

    • 6–8 strawberries, hulled
    • 6–8 Bocconcini (small mozzarella balls)
    • 1 cup sugar
    • ½ cup water
    • Wooden skewers

Directions

  1. In a pitcher, combine cold water, lemon juice, honey or sugar, and Mastiha liqueur.
  2. Stir until the sweetener is fully dissolved. 
  3. Fill serving glasses with ice and pour the lemonade over the ice. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint.
  4. To make the Tanghulu skewers, thread strawberries and Bocconcini alternately onto wooden skewers.
  5. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches the hard crack stage (150°C / 300°F).
  6. Remove from heat and quickly dip each skewer into the syrup, coating evenly.
  7. Place on a parchment-lined tray to cool and harden.
  8. Top each glass of Mastiha Lemonade with a Bocconcini Tanghulu skewer. Serve immediately for a crisp, refreshing pairing.
